In a bid to tackle poverty and reduce dependency on the government, the Nhyira Charities Foundation, in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency, organized a highly impactful Youth Mentorship and Business Summit in the Sekyere South District. The event, which took place on April 19th, 2024, at the District Conference Room, brought together experienced individuals who shared their knowledge and insights with over 350 enthusiastic participants.
The program aimed to empower the youth by educating them about various strategies to escape poverty and foster self-reliance. By equipping young individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge, the organizers sought to create a generation of economically independent citizens who contribute positively to society.
The summit boasted an impressive lineup of speakers, including personalities such as Hon. Catherine Reckling, the Sekyere South District Chief Executive, Hon. Asare Bediako, the Sekyere South Best Farmer, and Hon. Prince Owusu, the Director of the Ghana Education Service in Mampong. These esteemed individuals shared their experiences and valuable insights, inspiring the attendees to take charge of their own destinies.
The Director of the Youth Employment Agency for Sekyere South district; Hon. Takyi Benard commenced the summit with an inspiring opening and welcome address. He emphasized the purpose of the gathering, highlighting his intent to empower the youth to create their own jobs and improve their overall welfare.
The event continued with a speech by Hon. Catherine Reckling, who emphasized the importance of self-sufficiency and the need to reduce the burden on the government. She expressed her confidence in the abilities of the youth and encouraged them to seize the opportunities available to them.
Hon. Asare Bediako, a well-respected figure in the agricultural sector, shared his personal journey to success as a farmer. He highlighted the potential of agriculture as a viable career option, urging young people to explore the vast opportunities in the industry. Hon. Prince Owusu, the GES Director in Mampong, shed light on the significance of education and skill development in breaking the cycle of poverty. He emphasized the need for continuous learning and acquiring relevant skills to thrive in today’s competitive job market. Through his speech, he encouraged the youth to embrace lifelong learning and explore vocational training as a means to enhance their employability.
John Afrim, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) as well as the Policy & Research Officer of Nhyira Charities Foundation, stood in place of President Agyei Peprah and delivered a compelling speech on the organization’s mission and the impactful work they do. The foundation, known for its dedication to social causes, also took the opportunity to launch an exciting project called the “Youth In Sports Project.”
In collaboration with the Chibsah Foundation, YEA, PRO Players Academy, and Club Consult Africa Ltd, the Nhyira Charities Foundation unveiled the Youth In Sports Project during the summit. This initiative aims to harness the potential of sports as a vehicle for youth empowerment and community development. By engaging young people in sports activities specifically football, the project seeks to instill essential life skills, encourage teamwork, and promote physical well-being.
The project’s comprehensive approach encompasses coaching, mentorship, and talent development, with the ultimate goal of nurturing aspiring athletes and providing them with opportunities to pursue careers in sports. Through this collaborative effort, the Youth In Sports Project aspires to create a positive impact on the lives of the youth, fostering a sense of purpose, discipline, and a pathway to success.
